HOFBURG Vienna
50 Years of Connecting History and the FuturePublished on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg Betriebsges.m.b.H., this paper traces the development of HOFBURG Vienna from its founding to the present day while exploring perspectives for the future of one of Europe’s most significant historic event venues.
Structured around three thematic areas, the publication examines the social and political climate that shaped the organisation’s early years, the economic significance of HOFBURG Vienna in establishing Vienna as a hub for international organisations and a leading congress destination, and the challenges and opportunities involved in adapting and activating historic architecture for contemporary use.
Contributions by Sophie Gerber, Martina Stoff-Hochreiner, and Wojciech Czaja are complemented by statements from pioneers of the organisation, long-standing partners, industry stakeholders, representatives of international organisations, and political decision-makers. Together, these voices provide a multifaceted view of the institution, its history, and its ongoing role in shaping Vienna’s international profile.
For this publication, Konnektom developed the editorial concept and oversaw the project’s content development, bringing together historical research, expert perspectives, and contemporary discourse in a concise and accessible format.
