OPENmarx
Developed by students of the design.build studio in collaboration with the future.lab at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, TU Wien, OPENmarx established a temporary campus and meeting place in Neu Marx, Vienna's 3rd district. Conceived as an open platform for exchange, the project brought together students, local residents, refugees, and community initiatives.
The temporary campus consisted of five architectural modules comprising two workshops, a communal kitchen, seminar spaces, and facilities for sports and leisure activities. At its heart stood the well-known container structure of TU Wien's Mobile Urban Laboratory, previously located at Karlsplatz and reactivated as the central hub of the project.
Alongside TU Wien's academic lectures and event programme, OPENmarx hosted a diverse range of workshops, courses, and educational activities tailored specifically to refugees. These initiatives were developed in collaboration with numerous social and non-profit organizations, fostering participation, integration, and shared learning.
Konnektom supported OPENmarx through sponsorship development and communication activities and is proud to have contributed to the realization of this remarkable project, which demonstrated how architecture, education, and civic engagement can create meaningful spaces for encounter and inclusion.
